Day 1: Overnight in Gothenburg
We'll meet at Gothenburg / Landvetter Airport and transfer to Hotel Vanilla in central Gothenburg (Göteborg). There we’ll jump right into Swedish culture with a Swedish fika (coffee and pastry) and a briefing with the guide about the schedule for the coming days. In the afternoon we’ll enjoy a guided city walking and food tour, and finish our first day with a nice dinner at a selected restaurant. Overnight in Gothenburg.
Day 2: Gustafsberg and Gullholmen
After breakfast we'll transfer to historic Gustafsberg, Sweden’s first seaside resort, where our local tour operator and guides have their kayak center. We'll try out kayaks and paddling equipment for the week, and continue by minibus to Kärlingesund for our first day of kayaking. We'll start in Kärlingesund and will paddle through the picturesque and protected area of Nordströmmarna, and will then continue south toward the outer archipelago, to Gullholmen, one of the coast's old fishing villages, dating from the 11th century. After checking in to our hotel, we’ll head out to dinner in a one of the restaurants in the village. Distance kayaked: 8.5 miles/14 kilometers. Overnight in Gullholmsbaden.
Day 3: Hermanö Island and Lådfabriken
We'll have a great day of kayaking along Hermanö Island to a sandy beach lunch at the alluringly named Champagne Bay on the south side of the island, or possibly to the neighboring island of Vallerö, before continuing south to Edshultshall and checking in to the Lådfabriken, the creative Box Factory that has been restored as a chic and friendly guest house. We’ll have dinner at the Lådfabriken. Distance kayaked: 9.5 miles/15 kilometers. Overnight on Orust Island.
Day 4: Mollösund and Björholmens Marina
We’ll enjoy another day paddling south past the charming fishing village of Mollösund at the southwestern tip of Orust, stopping for lunch at a restaurant in the village. After lunch we’ll continue south across the Stigfjorden, that divides Orust and its southern, slightly smaller neighbor island, Tjörn. On the northwestern tip of Tjörn we’ll stop for the night at Björholmens Marina and Hotel where we’ll have dinner at the hotel. Distance kayaked: 9.5 miles/15 kilometers. Overnight on Tjörn Island in the marina hotel.
Day 5: Skärhamn and Klädesholmen
On the final paddling day we’ll continue south along the west side of Tjörn Island, stopping for a restaurant lunch in the village of Skärhamn at the very nice restaurant Vatten (Water). In the afternoon we’ll continue south through amazing scenery to our final night at the floating Hotel Salt & Sill in Sweden’s most famous herring producing village, Klädesholmen. We’ll have dinner at the hotel. Distance kayaked: 10.5 miles/17 kilometers. Overnight on Tjörn Island in Klädesholmen Village.
Day 6: Depart for Gothenburg
Breakfast and transfer to Gothenburg Airport, or central Gothenberg if you are extending your stay in this interesting and attractive city.
